Inetimi Timaya Odon, also known by his stage name Timaya and born on August 15, 1980, is a well-known singer and composer from Nigeria. He is the organization’s founder.

“Dem Mom,” which was also included on his debut album, Real Story, which was released the following year, marked the beginning of his solo career in 2005. Gift and Grace, his second album, was released in 2008.

Through the release of his third studio album, De Rebirth, in collaboration with Black Body Entertainment, and the album’s lead hit, “Plantain Boy,” he increased his visibility and international notoriety.

He earned some money from both of them, which he used to work with Dem Mama Soldiers on the album LLNP (Long Life N Prosperity). Timaya released Upgrade in 2012, and it gave rise to the singles “Bum Bum,” “Sexy Women,” and “Malonogede”.

His efforts have led to numerous prestigious nominations and prizes, including four The Headies Awards, two AFRIMMA Awards, one Nigeria Music Award, and an NEA Award.

Early Life

On August 15, 1980, Inetimi Timaya Odon was born in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. He was the youngest of fifteen children raised in a huge family in Agip Estate, Port Harcourt.

His mother was a trader, and his father worked in banking. Timaya had his early education at the Assemblies of God Nursery And Primary School. In Port Harcourt, at Nkpolu Oroworukwo, he commenced his secondary schooling.

He frequently disobeyed house regulations to go to late-night musical events. Timaya’s mother planned a trip to Lagos with his older brother and sister before he could complete his education. He was accepted into Lagos’ Ikeja Grammar School after moving there, and there he eventually graduated with a secondary school diploma.

Timaya eventually went back to Port Harcourt to finish her tertiary banking and finance studies. He failed his exams, nevertheless, and left school after the first semester. He returned to Lagos to perform with Eedris Abdulkareem’s hip-hop group as a backup vocalist.

Timaya left the group to concentrate on his solo career after three years of working for Eedris Abdulkareem. He started to record collaborations with other upcoming musicians and made his debut cameo in an unreleased music video for the rap group UDX from Lagos. After hearing him play the a cappella version, producer Obaksolo in Mafoluku, Oshodi, recorded his first significant hit record, “Dem Mama.”

He collaborated with Menthol X’s Namse Udosen on the song “Pomporo” from his debut album True Story.

In an interview published in August 2013, Timaya described the song, saying: “‘Dem Mama’ was an account of the destruction of Odi, a riverfront hamlet in the Niger Delta, in 1999. Troops were looking for suspected militants who had murdered eight cops. Several people were murdered, and the community was completely destroyed by fire. Years later, I boldly took on the problem and immediately gained street reputation.

Education

Timaya had his pre-primary and primary schooling at the Assemblies of God Nursery and Primary School. After that, he went to Nkpolu Oroworukwo Secondary School in Port Harcourt.

When he completed his secondary education in Port Harcourt, his mother had him go with his older brother and sister to Lagos. He was admitted to Ikeja Grammar School in Lagos when he arrived.

Timaya returned to Port Harcourt after finishing high school to enroll in the university’s Banking and Finance program, but he finally walked out after failing his first semester’s exams.

Career

Timaya and producer K-Solo made the decision to continue after the success of “Dem Mama.” For his debut album True Story, which was eventually published in 2007, he recorded seven additional songs.

Timaya collaborated with producers Phyno, Jeggs, Spankie, Akeem D Beat, Obaksolo, and Terry G to start production on his second album later that year. Gift and Grace, an album, was made available countrywide in 2008.

Timaya won two prizes in 2008: “Best Reggae/Dancehall album” at the The Headies Awards and “Album of the Year” at the Nigeria Music Awards. During the 2009 The Headies, he also won two prizes: “Best Reggae/Dancehall album” for Gift and Grace and “Best Collaboration” for his appearance on J Martins’ “Good or Bad (O Wey)”.

Timaya’s third album, De Rebirth, and its success-themed first single, “Plantain Boy,” were both released two years later. Akeem D Beat, Phyno, Flux, M-Yire, Jay Sleek, N.D, Jesse Jagz, and Obaksolo all contributed to the album’s production.

In 2010, Timaya appeared on the song “Kokoroko” by female gospel artist Kefee, which went on to win in the “Best Collaboration” category at the 2010 Headies Awards. He most recently made an appearance by Kcee in a song titled “Erima.” Timaya has worked with guest artists like 2Baba, TJ 2Solo, Allenian, Konga, Lanre, MI Abaga, TJ, and Wrecoba.

The second track on the album, “Dem No Like Me,” featured a legendary reggae singer, Ras Kimono. Timaya released LLNP (Long Life And Prosperity), a collaborative album with his crew, Dem Mama Soldiers, in November 2011. On June 25, 2012, he released a 14-track album titled Upgrade, which produced the hits “Bum-Bum,” “Sexy Ladies,” and “Malonogede.”

Collaborations with Attitude, Terry G, and Vector are included on the album. A few hours after Duncan Mighty’s album Footprints hit shops, Timaya and Duncan Mighty’s duet, “I Know I Know Dat,” leaked online. At the fourth annual Odudu Music Awards, M-Trill, Sodi Cookey, Becky Enyioma, and Timi Dakolo were were among the honorees.

Timaya’s fifth studio album, Epiphany, was released in 2014; it had 20 tracks and featured artists like 2Baba, Patoranking, Olamide, Sir Shina Peters, Deethi, Phyno, and Terry G. In 2017, Timaya appeared in Nassau, Bahamas, where he was the headlining act at the first-ever Afro-Soca Concert.

Timaya released an EP titled Chulo Vibes (2019) with East African singer Alikiba, Trinidadian Soca Legend Machel Montano, and Nigeria’s Burna Boy after five years of single releases and touring.

In order to develop artists like Patoranking and Runtown, Timaya established his record label, DM Records Limited. In 2017, he recruited budding Dancehall/Afro-Fusion artist King Perryy to the label. the imprint of DM Records.

Personal Life

Timaya attends Winners Chapel, also known as Living Faith Church. A boy and two girls, totaling three beautiful children, are his blessings. He resides in the opulent home he constructed in Lekki, Lagos.

He had two children with Gracey Odon’s girlfriend Barbara Nwaokolo and Emmanuella Odon. In the past, Timaya dated Empress Njamah. He had a child from a previous relationship named Maya Odon.

His collection of high-end, exotic cars is a reflection of how God has used his music to prosper him. His vehicles include a 2015 Lexus SUV, a Range Rover Sport 2013, a Range Rover Sport 2016, and a Mercedes-Benz GLE. Timaya has other assets in addition to the automobiles and his home, particularly landed holdings.
