Michael Owusu Addo, a Ghanaian rapper and entrepreneur from Tema, goes by the stage name Sarkodie (born July 10, 1988).

His efforts to the Ghanaian music business have earned him multiple awards, including the Vodafone Ghana Music Award for “Artiste of the Decade.”

With his contributions to the culture, he is widely regarded as one of the finest African rappers of all time.

Early Life

Sarkodie was born on July 10, 1988, as the fourth of five children.

He was raised in Koforidua until his parents relocated to Tema, where he began his education.

Sarkodie started out as an underground rapper, competing in Adom FM’s famed rap competition Kasahare Level.

As previously stated, he met his former manager, Duncan Williams of Duncwills Entertainment, while competing.

He also met musicians Edem and Castro, who introduced him to Hammer, a well-known record producer from The Last Two.

Hammer permitted Sarkodie to record two tracks for Edem’s debut album, Volta Regime, after being impressed by his rap skills.

Education

Sarkodie attended Tema Methodist Day Senior High School and proceeded to IPMC, where he earned a degree in graphic design.

Career

At the 2019 BET Hip Hop Awards, Sarkodie was named the first winner of BET’s Best International Flow artist. He is also regarded as one of the most influential proponents of the Azonto genre and dance, as well as one of the most successful African rappers of all time.

Aside from his music career, Sarkodie founded The Sarkodie Foundation on July 13, 2013, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping impoverished children. He also made significant contributions to the Royal Seed Home Orphanage in Kasoa.

On December 25, 2014, The Foundation launched a feed the kids campaign in Tema, Ghana, distributing bags of rice, yogurt, and beverage cans to hundreds of children. In addition, they distributed school bags, water bottles, hats, and other supplies. Tigo Telecommunications CEO Roshi Motman was also present to promote the campaign.

Sarkodie also owns the Sark by Yas apparel line, which debuted on April 27, 2013. Accessories are available for men, women, and children in the apparel range. In 2012, he was officially introduced as the Samsung Electronics Brand Ambassador at the University of Ghana, Legon.

As part of the celebration, Samsung launched the Samsung Galaxy Pocket and Chief Hero Phones, which featured personalized wallpapers of Sarkodie and his signature; users could also download unique Sarkodie music. In 2013, he also released the Obidi Chief headphones and acquired an endorsement contract with FanMilk Ghana.

Sarkodie is now working with Tigo Telecommunications Ghana, a company that sponsored his Rapperholic tour in 2013.

Sarkodie has endorsement relationships with Standard Chartered Bank, Africa’s largest bank, and Guinness Ghana Limited for its Malt drink product. On October 30, 2019, he was named an ambassador for the Year of Return campaign, an honor bestowed upon him at the Creative Arts Industry Forum.

Sarkodie and his daughter were featured in the #BrushWithMe campaign ad for Ghana’s leading toothpaste brand, Pepsodent Ghana, in March 2021. The ad was created to encourage parents and guardians to begin and maintain a daily and nightly tooth brushing regimen with their children. This was done in recognition of World Oral Health Day.

Personal Life

On July 17, 2018, Sarkodie married Tracy Owusu Addo, commonly known as Tracy Sarkcess, in a private wedding ceremony in Tema, Ghana. He is 37 years old right now.

They have two children: Adalyn Owusu Addo, a daughter, and Micheal Nana Yaw Owusu Addo Jnr, named after the famous rapper.

Net Worth

Sarkodie has been in the entertainment industry since the beginning of 2009. However, with his work, the star musician has gained fans from here and there.
