Sodiq Abubakar Yusuf (born May 6, 1985) is a famous indigenous rapper and composer in Nigeria.

He is well recognized by his stage name CDQ and for singing in Yoruba, his native language.

He rose to prominence following the release of his official debut track, Nowo E Soke, featuring Wizkid.

Following that, he worked with Masterkraft and Olamide to release the hit single Indomie.

CDQ won an award at the 2016 Nigeria Music Video Awards thanks to the song.

No Struggle No Success Entertainment is his independent label.

Early Life

On May 6, 1985, CDQ was born to Mr. and Mrs. Yusuf’s family. He was born in Orile, Lagos State, although his family is from Ilorin, Kwara State. Sodiq Abubakar is a Muslim who comes from a Muslim family.

CDQ grew up in Orile before relocating to Ilorin for his high school studies. He returned to Lagos State after graduating from high school with honors.

He applied to Lagos State University and graduated four years later with a degree in Economics.

While in high school, CDQ developed an interest in music, particularly on rap music. He began with English rap, but over time, he transitioned to indigenous rap music, rapping in his native Yoruba dialect.

Career

At the age of twenty-three, CDQ began composing music professionally in 2008. He first performed as a backup singer for Dagrin before rapping in English with M.I Abaga.

CDQ’s fortunes improved when he won a rap battle at the Weekly Industry Nite in December 2012. This led to his success, as Masterkraft offered him a record deal, which he accepted. This occurred in 2013.

CDQ became a household name in the country in 2014. Indomie, his smash tune featuring Olamide’s vocals, was released. He teamed with Afrobeats musician Davido on the song’s remix. Masterkraft, a legendary producer, created the song.

Nowo E Soke, featuring Wizkid, was another commercial hit for him. Quality, his debut album, featured the song as the lead single. Unlimited L.A. shot and directed the video for the tune, which won Best Afro Hip-Hop Video at the 2016 Nigeria Music Video Awards. In 2015, he published his debut album.

After his contract with General Records expired, he founded his own record label, N.S.N.S (No Struggle No Success Entertainment), on November 11, 2016. Sai Baba is the title of his debut record with the label.

Woos Wobi, Oobi, Salaro, Talosobe, First Come First Serve, and Make We Run are among the standout tracks on CDQ’s debut album, Quality.

He released the top-charting songs Warey yo, Gbayi, Shey Normal, Flex, Aye, and Onye Eze in 2018. Ibile Mugabe, his second studio album, was released in 2019.

CDQ collaborated with Wande Coal to release the popular song Kogbede in 2021.

Awards and Nominations

At the 2015 Nigerian Entertainment prizes, CDQ was nominated for two prizes. He was also nominated for Best Street-Hop Artist at the 2015 Headies Awards.

At the 2017 Ghana-Naija Showbiz Awards, he was named Best Street-Hop Artiste.

Personal Life

CDQ celebrated his 37th birthday on May 6th. To commemorate his special day, his family and close associates organized a private birthday celebration for him.

He is a wealthy artist with properties all throughout Nigeria. He lives in a villa in Lekki, Lagos State.
He also has a fleet of cars in his garage.

CDQ mentors and assists young up-and-coming musicians in the business through his record label, N.S.N.S. He has a son despite the fact that he is not married. He is, nevertheless, in a serious romantic relationship with a lovely young lady.

Net Worth

CDQ has gained fortune through his music career. Every year, he is invited to play at exhibitions and concerts all around the world. He also receives royalties from the sale of his CDs, which he uses to supplement his income.
