His foray into music brought to light both his parents’ immediate condemnation and the opinion of a coworker who believed it takes a long time to become a star, particularly in the very competitive Nigerian music industry, which produces new talent every day.

After he dropped out of Lagos State University while studying history and international relations, his parents instantly stopped being concerned about his needs.

With the release of his solo single, Questionnaire, a national hit, Oxlade once again demonstrated to the industry what he could do. The commercial success of Questionnaire, however, pales in comparison to Oxlade’s breakthrough hit, Away.

He received criticism from his maternal uncles for writing secular music. This had a big impact on his church athletics as well. Two years after enrolling in the history and international relations department at LASU, he left. This action didn’t sit well with his father, who stopped granting his requests as a result. Prior to Blaqbonez discovering his previously released song “Sour” and deciding to collaborate with him, he had already stopped recording and was on the verge of giving up on music.

Oxlade’s Blaqbonez Meeting
