Mayowa Adewale (born March 23, 1994) is better known in the entertainment world as Mayorkun.
He is an award-winning singer and songwriter who has had multiple hit tracks.
Davido Music Worldwide (DMW) is his record label. He rose to prominence after releasing his debut single, Eleko, in 2016.
Early Life
Mayorkun was born in 1994 to the Adewales. He comes from a creative family.
Toyin Adewale, his mother, is a veteran Nollywood actress who has appeared in various Yoruba films. Mr. Adewale, his father, is a film producer and artist.
Mayorkun is the family’s first child, and he has two siblings (brothers). Ayo Freeman, his younger brother, works as an A&R (Artists and Repertoire) personnel.
Despite being born in Osun State, he is a true Lagosian. His passion of music led him to join the choir at his church. While honing his singing skills, he also learnt to play the piano.
On the same day he resigned from his banking job, he was signed to the DMW label.
Education
Mayorkun attended top private schools in Lagos for his basic and secondary education.
He graduated from the University of Lagos. He graduated with a degree in Accounting from the university.
Career
Mayorkun, a talented pianist, performed a version of a popular song and released the video online. The video quickly went viral, catching Davido’s attention. Mayorkun was signed to Davido’s freshly created music label, DMW, a few weeks later.
Mayorkun released his debut single, Eleko, in 2016, and it quickly became successful. Within 10 days, the song had received over one million views on YouTube.
This triumph was followed by the hit singles Sade, Yawa, Love You Tire, Mama, and Bobo.
In November 2018, he released his debut album, Mayor Of Lagos. Prior to the album’s release, he planned his first national tour, dubbed the Mayor Of Lagos Concert. He performed in over 35 higher education institutions in Nigeria.
Mayorkun has also appeared in a number of international shows. At the Wireless Festival, he and Davido performed together.
He released the hit singles Geng and Of Lagos in 2020. The song was popular for several months since it had become a street anthem.
On Davido’s third studio album, he collaborated with him. He appeared on the smash song “The Best.”
He has collaborated with major bands like as Mr Eazi, Yung John, Kizz Daniel, Joeboy, Yonda, Peruzzi, Dremo, T-Classic, The Flowolf, and Ichaba, among others.
He was nominated for Artiste Of The Year at the 14th Headies Awards in December 2020.
